The State Theatre occupied this site from the time it opened in 1929 to when it was demolished in the 1970's. There was a large stone head that sat on top of the facade.
In this photo, the street scene is 2003, but the stone head was also photographed in 2003. It now sits in front of the Theatre at St Anselm's College. I merely took the stone head photo and put him back where he belongs. The ghostly image of the theatre is from the 1930's.
When I was a little boy, I used to mistake this face for the Old Man of the Mountain image that was on the front of our Manchester Union Leader newspaper. - Ron Boucher -
